After dental implant surgery, it is recommended that you take it easy for a day or two. Resting aids the healing process. You may be instructed to bite on gauze pads after surgery to help stop bleeding. The surgery site is generally sutured closed but oozing of blood may still occure for a couple of hours or for the first day. If you are still bleeding after 24 hours call Dr. Friz. Proper nutrition along with plenty of fluids, a mutiple vitamin, extra vitamin C and calcium can be benificial to healing. You may need to apply an ice pack to your face in thirty-minute intervals for the first day following surgery. If you received upper implants, do not blow your nose for two weeks. You may be prescribed an antibiotic and pain medication following surgery. Take the medication as directed. Some slight discomfort may occure for a couple of days following surgery. Avoid chewing on the side of your mouth where the implants and/or bone graft was placed until the stiches are removed.
